Watchdog says CNN International violates Russian legislation

MOSCOW, Sep 29 (PRIME) -- The Federal Service for Communications, IT, and Mass Communication Oversight has summoned representatives of CNN International after discovering that the channel violated mass media legislation, the service said in a statement on Friday.

The service discovered the violations during inspection of Turner Information Programs and Lifestyle, a local subsidiary of Turner Broadcasting System Europe, which broadcasts CNN international in Russia.

“We’ve discovered violations of Russian legislation in activity of the CNN International channel, violation of the mass media legislation for which the Code of Administrative Offences encompasses administrative sanctions. Representatives of the channel were summoned to the service for consideration of administrative cases,” the statement read.

The service will study the violation and issue a corresponding order to eliminate it.
